Sanding and refinishing hardwood floors- Always use an expert

Sanding and refinishing hardwood floors is one of the simplest and cost-efficient ways to change the look of your home.

Sometime it is done to fix all the scratches and just make it pretty and shiny. Other times, it is meant to give your place a striking face lift. Either way, it truly makes the place look like a brand new one.

If you are selling the home, it is generally compulsory. If you are about to shift to a new home, then make the colour your own. Most people find the cost is less costly than they thought. And it is definitely less than installing new floors, and also less costly than carpet.

What has confused me these past few weeks is how many botched up hardwood sanding and refinishing jobs I have witnessed. These have all been scenarios where the customers hired someone who doesn’t do this professionally, such as a handyman, a friend or even in one case someone who claimed it to be a “general contractor”.

Anyone who is in the flooring business knows that oak is different than pine, hence if you are going to do some repair work, please utilize the matching wood.

As I mentioned before, wood floor refinishing is not that costly. It is not something where you should try to save some money. It is fine to save money in moving the furniture and associated factors, but please leave the sanding for the experts. You might also be able to get away by painting it on your own. However, unless you have done it before, please don’t try to refinish on your own. Eventually, you might have to bring in a professional anyhow to repair the work and to sand and refinish much sooner than normal.
